A simulation call with no gas specified reports that gas is too high; the issue may lie in the default value. Reth PR #28315 addresses the Amsterdam scenario: when an operator sets rpc.gascap to max, the default gas value may exceed the transaction gas limit. The patch sets the default to the smaller of the RPC call limit and the transaction limit in the current execution environment, and adds corresponding test cases. When investigating simulation failures in application $ETH , first retain the node version, fork configuration, and request parameters; “not specified” still triggers the default rules. This discussion concerns how RPC simulation parameters are handled and does not imply that mainnet transaction fees have increased.
