About pNetwork (PNT)

pNetwork is a protocol that enables cross-chain operations, such as transferring assets from one blockchain to another. It is designed to provide interoperability between different blockchain networks, allowing users to take advantage of the unique features and capabilities of each network while still being able to access and use their assets on other networks.

The pNetwork project was launched in late 2019 (it was originally called pTokens) as a cross-chain solution connecting multiple blockchains and assets, with its first cross-chain bridging solution connecting Bitcoin and Ethereum going live in production on March 5th, 2020.This was followed by the launch of a variety of other cross-chain connections to enable the movement of assets and, later on, NFTs and data across ecosystems, for better and improved blockchain interoperability.

Today, pNetwork powers connections across over 16 networks (including multiple very different blockchain environments and Ethereum scaling networks).In parallel, the protocol experienced subsequent evolutions to make the infrastructure increasingly decentralized. This push towards decentralization was the impetus for the introduction of the pNetwork token PNT which serves as the governance token for the pNetwork DAO, the staking currency for pNetwork nodes.

The PNT token is a native ERC-20 token on the Ethereum network and it is made available on Arbitrum, Polygon, BSC, Telos, EOS and Gnosis chain via the pNetwork protocol. How Do Network Consensus and Validation Work On pNetwork?

pNetwork v2 made the protocol open-source, facilitating cross-chain routing between blockchain ecosystems and scalability networks. This version allows users and smart contracts on any blockchain to send and receive assets and data messages across chains, greatly enhancing the protocol's scope for blockchain-to-blockchain communications.

pNetwork v3 introduces an optimistic approach with multi-provers for its architecture. It features a Relayer who proposes the issuance or redemption of a pToken. This proposal undergoes a challenge period for legitimacy verification, optimistically reflecting the user's swap request. If found illegitimate, the proposal can be cancelled after this period by actors known as Sentinels and Guardians. Unlike v2, where selected nodes processed transactions, any entity can now suggest transfer execution post-challenge. Being fully decentralized, pNetwork v3 is not subject to MICA regulation, avoiding KYC and AML requirements and enhancing user experience. Despite its decentralization, pNetwork actively seeks methods to prevent its use for illegal activities or with illicit funds.
