Chicago's Metropolitan Capital Bank & Trust has been closed by Illinois regulators.

Reasons:
- Unsafe conditions - operating in an unsafe manner
- Weak capital - not enough money reserves

What this means:
- Depositors' money was at risk
- Regulators had to close the bank
- FDIC can protect deposits

This is the first US bank failure of 2026.
