🔥 After BTC surged above $72K, one question is becoming increasingly important: who is really driving this rally?
Over the past few days, the pace in the Crypto market has clearly changed.
$BTC broke out from long-term consolidation quickly, reaching above $72K at one point; $ETH followed strongly as well, hovering near $2,300; and $BNB also bounced in line with the market.
But if you only look at the price, you might miss the more noteworthy changes behind this move.
This time, several factors are happening at the same time:
🔹 The U.S. Treasury expands long-term Treasury repo operations, and the market is re-pricing liquidity expectations 🔹 Large short positions are being liquidated in succession, further accelerating the upside momentum 🔹 Crypto regulatory expectations in the U.S. are heating up again 🔹 After BTC breaks out, capital starts to spread into ETH and other mainstream assets
So what the market should really be watching now isn’t:
“Can BTC keep going up?”
But rather:
After the Short Squeeze push gradually weakens, can real buying step in?
If trading volume and money flows continue to hold, the nature of this rally may shift from a “fast squeeze” into broader participation by capital.
On the other hand, if subsequent capital doesn’t keep following through, the same high volatility could also trigger a rapid pullback.
Going forward, I’m more focused on:
👀 Whether BTC can hold the new price range after the breakout 👀 Whether ETH can continue to outperform BTC 👀 Whether mainstream assets like BNB can receive sustained rotation of capital
Phase one is the breakout. Phase two is the squeeze. In the third phase, what matters is the real capital.
In the coming days, what may be more important than the breakout itself.

$BTC During the session, price surged to 72490 USDT, reaching the highest level since early June. After two days, it violently rebounded from around 64000. The weekly gain is nearly 15%. Over the past 24 hours, liquidations across the entire network exceeded $3.3 billion, with long liquidations accounting for $3.0 billion. This is a typical squeeze-and-rally (short-squeeze): leveraged shorts are heavily swept out, forcing liquidations and stop-losses, while passive buy orders push the price sharply higher. Spot ETF in the United States saw a large net inflow—net inflow of $517 million in a single day, the highest since May. This suggests that real spot capital is entering the market, not just a futures-driven short-squeeze.

After ETH surged more than 20%, “7 Siblings” sells 9,000 ETH to obtain 21.04 million USDT
On August 21 (UTC+8), according to on-chain analyst Yu Jin’s monitoring, a mega whale/institution named “7 Siblings” bought after ETH fell by more than 10% in a short period, and sold after ETH rose by more than 10% in a short period. Earlier this year, in February and June, after ETH saw two instances of declines of more than 10%, this whale/institution also made buys; the buy price in June was $1,789. Over the past day and a half, ETH has risen by more than 20%, and 7 Siblings (0x28a...a6b) has started selling. Within the past 6 hours, it sold 9,000 ETH, exchanging it for 21.04 million USDT, with an average price of $2,338. (Source: ODAILY)
🔥 BTC is above $72K — but one question is becoming more important: What is REALLY driving this rally?
The rhythm of the crypto market has changed dramatically over the past few days.
$BTC broke out of its long trading range and surged above $72K. $ETH followed toward the $2,300 area, while $BNB also moved higher with the broader market.
But the price itself may not be the most interesting part.
Several forces are moving at the same time:
🔹 U.S. Treasury bond buybacks have revived liquidity expectations 🔹 Massive short liquidations accelerated the rally 🔹 U.S. crypto regulatory expectations are heating up again 🔹 Capital is beginning to spread from BTC into ETH and other majors
So the real question is no longer:
“Can Bitcoin go higher?”
It’s this:
When the SHORT SQUEEZE starts fading, will REAL BUYERS take over?
If volume and capital flows remain strong, this move could evolve from a liquidation-driven rally into broader market participation.
If fresh capital fails to follow, however, elevated volatility could work in both directions.
What I’m watching next:
👀 Can BTC hold its new range after the breakout? 👀 Can ETH continue gaining strength relative to BTC? 👀 Will BNB and other majors attract sustained capital rotation?
Phase 1: Breakout. Phase 2: Short squeeze. Phase 3: Real capital.
The next few days may tell us much more than the breakout itself.
