I’m not sure if this is a useful observation or just a sign that I’ve been watching these industries for too long.

For years, AI and crypto felt like they were solving different problems. AI was focused on making systems more capable. Crypto was focused on making systems more verifiable. Different priorities. Different cultures. Different kinds of optimism.

Now those paths seem to be crossing.

The thing that keeps nagging at me is how much trust we place in AI outputs without really knowing where they came from. We accept answers, summaries, recommendations, and decisions generated by systems that are becoming increasingly opaque. Most of the time we don't know who ran the model, where the computation happened, or whether the result could be independently verified.

We just trust that it worked.

Maybe that’s inevitable. Maybe convenience always wins.

Still, infrastructure tends to become important in moments when nobody wants to think about infrastructure. When access changes. When incentives change. When a dependency that seemed permanent suddenly isn't.

That’s partly why OpenGradient ($OPG ) has caught my attention.

Not because I think decentralized infrastructure automatically solves trust. If anything, years in crypto have made me cautious about those assumptions. But because the focus on hosting, inference, and verification feels aimed at a layer of AI that people increasingly depend on while barely noticing.

The phrase “open intelligence” sounds compelling.

It also sounds difficult once ownership, economics, and scale start pulling on it from different directions.

Lately I keep wondering whether the future of AI is less about intelligence itself and more about whether anyone can still verify what’s happening once the systems become too important to remain visible.
