Morgan Stanley expands contract hiring in Hong Kong as the IPO wave accelerates

📌 Morgan Stanley has started hiring contract staff in Hong Kong to handle a sharp rise in listing activity, signaling that deal pressure is returning clearly to the city’s financial market. This approach helps the bank increase execution capacity while still keeping costs under control in a volatile environment.

💡 The move comes as Hong Kong became the world’s top listing venue in 2025, with IPO proceeds up 231% to $37.4 billion and total ECM volume up 164% to $103 billion. As of February 27, 2026, there were still 530 main board applications in the pipeline, showing that issuance demand remains strong.

🔎 Morgan Stanley’s IPO support team was set up in Q4 2025 and now has around 10 people focused on due diligence for deals in Hong Kong and the US, mostly involving Chinese companies. It suggests banks are leaning toward more flexible operating models rather than expanding permanent headcount too early.
