American officials have confirmed that a newly deployed drone-carrying ship the "USS Gerald R. Ford" has suffered severe damage.
According to U.S. officials after sustaining significant damage the massive naval vessel is being moved to a port in Greece. The "USS Gerald R. Ford" has been affected by a fire and repairs will take time. Two American soldiers were injured in the incident.
It is worth noting that the "USS Gerald R. Ford" is considered one of the largest naval ships in the world. Its construction was decided keeping in mind modern battlefield requirements.
A "U.S. Navy" spokesperson said the incident occurred on March 12 when a fire broke out aboard the "USS Gerald R. Ford" while it was operating in international waters near the Greek island of Andros. The fire started in an area located about 30 kilometers from the shore. After the incident the ship will be repaired at a Greek port.
According to The New York Times around 600 sailors were on board at the time of the fire which reportedly started beneath the deck. After repairs the "USS Gerald R. Ford" will be deployed to the Middle East.
It is being suggested that Iran’s Revolutionary Guards may have carried out a missile attack on the "USS Gerald R. Ford" though U.S. naval officials have so far denied these claims.
