Bitcoin can rally without the market becoming healthier.

That's the uncomfortable part of derivatives-driven price action.

A rising BTC price alongside expanding open interest may reflect fresh positioning—not necessarily stronger spot demand.

Add increasingly positive funding, and the question becomes more interesting: are buyers accumulating Bitcoin, or are leveraged longs becoming crowded?

Neither metric predicts a reversal on its own.

The real signal is in the combination:

• Spot volume and buying pressure
• Open interest expansion or contraction
• Funding-rate extremes
• Liquidations and price reaction

A breakout supported by genuine spot demand is a different proposition from a move heavily dependent on leverage.

What would convince you that the next BTC rally is sustainable: spot demand, healthier positioning, or something else?
