Institutions can now trade on Binance while their assets remain in segregated custody at Anchorage Digital Bank—not on the exchange. That's the first off-exchange settlement implementation on Anchorage's Atlas platform. $BTC

The setup mirrors traditional finance, where custody and execution are separate. Assets sit with a custodian and only move at final settlement, never on the trading venue's balance sheet. Crypto has long lacked that separation, forcing institutions to pre-fund exchange accounts and take on counterparty risk.

Anchorage Digital CEO Nathan McCauley said institutions need market structure that reflects traditional finance standards. The arrangement also lets clients pledge crypto and USD accounts as collateral to meet margin requirements. Binance's Catherine Chen said the model gives institutional clients a more familiar way to access liquidity.

If you're an institutional trader, this could mean you can tap Binance liquidity without surrendering custody—reducing exchange counterparty exposure. For everyone else, it may signal more institutional participation, but it doesn't promise any price direction.

The key takeaway: off-exchange settlement separates custody from execution, a standard institutions already expect.
