Yesterday settled one argument and opened another, and I can't stop thinking about it.
Bitcoin fell 5.8% to about $76,000 while the Nasdaq dropped 5.52% — its worst day in 18 months — and the Nasdaq 100 lost 6.4%, wiping out $2.3 trillion. BTC didn't just fall with tech, it fell slightly MORE than tech. That's hard to square with the 'digital gold, uncorrelated hedge' story. Peter Schiff is out there calling it a bubble and telling everyone to sell before the air comes out.
But here's where I land: the bubble call is overdone too. This wasn't a crypto-native collapse — it was a leverage flush. Over $1B in positions got liquidated in 24 hours, $954M of them longs, and one trader alone lost 201 BTC (about $15.6M) in eight liquidations. Spot BTC ETFs still took in about $75M on Nov 4, and $75K held again. BTC is 40% below its $126K all-time high, so a lot of air is ALREADY out.
My stance: right now BTC trades like a leveraged Nasdaq ETF, and pretending otherwise is denial. The hedge story isn't dead forever — but it only comes back if BTC holds $75K through today's jobs report and the $2.65B options expiry while stocks keep sliding.
Where do you stand?
A) BTC is leveraged tech now — trade it like the Nasdaq
B) One brutal day doesn't kill the hedge story — macro fear passes
C) Schiff's right — the air's coming out, $73K or lower next
