Ukraine’s Central Bank Pushes Back Against Crypto Regulation Bill 🇺🇦

Ukraine’s central bank has rejected the current version of the proposed crypto regulation bill, warning that it could weaken monetary sovereignty, threaten financial stability and allow foreign tokens to bypass local regulations.

The central bank is also concerned that giving regulators control over how many crypto exchanges can operate during the first five years could create market concentration and corruption risks. The bill also proposes a 5% transitional tax rate on existing crypto assets until the end of 2028.

I think Ukraine is right to be cautious, but rejecting the bill isn’t necessarily the answer. Crypto regulation needs to protect the financial system without making it too difficult for legitimate businesses to operate. Limiting the number of exchanges could also reduce competition and discourage innovation. Instead of restricting market access, Ukraine should focus on clear licensing requirements, transparency and proper oversight. The goal should be to regulate crypto, not slow down its growth.
