BREAKING: The $6.3 BILLION Binance breach started with a FAKE job offer.
Hackers pretended to be recruiters and tricked an engineer into opening a coding test on his work laptop. That file had hidden malware inside, according to CoinDesk.
- From there, they used Binance's own internal AI tool to get access to two wallet engineers' systems.
- With the stolen logins, they ran a harmful script on October 29.
- Then they abused Ethereum's new EIP-7702 upgrade to take over a hot wallet. It took around 4 hours to stop it.
Binance says $2.85 BILLION has been frozen so far, and 98% of the affected tokens have been replaced using company funds. Users will NOT lose money.
FBI says North Korea was behind the attack.
