Democrats are projected to control both the Senate (around 53 seats) and the House following the 2026 midterms. This creates a period of divided government for the final two years of the Trump administration.
Markets have so far treated the result as reduced political uncertainty rather than a pure risk-off or risk-on event. Here is the reaction across DXY, BTC, and XAU, based on current 4H and Daily structure.
DXY — Softening but holding range
The U.S. Dollar Index closed near 101.492 (down ~0.4%). On the 4H chart it rejected the 101.50–101.70 zone and is testing the nearest support area at 101.25–101.40.

A sustained break below 101.25 would open further downside toward recent lows. A reclaim of 101.70 would suggest the post-election dip is being bought. Lower yields and the prospect of legislative gridlock are the main drivers of the softer tone.
BTC — Dip then recovery
BTC Futures (Dec 2026) printed a reaction low near 75.7k as results confirmed a Democratic sweep, then recovered to close near 78,450–78,470 on the 4H. RSI sits near 51.

Key levels:
Immediate support / reaction zone: 77.5k–78.0k
Clear invalidation of the recovery: sustained loss of 75.7k
Overhead resistance: 80k (and the cluster of EMAs above)
The initial dip reflected concern over crypto market structure legislation (CLARITY Act) and potential tighter oversight. The recovery so far looks like a classic “certainty premium” once the outcome became clearer. Volume on the recovery candles is moderate — not yet a high-conviction expansion.
XAU — Clear beneficiary of weaker DXY
Gold delivered the cleanest reaction. It bounced strongly from the 3,920 area and closed near 4,017–4,018 on both Daily and 4H, up more than 2%. RSI on the 4H is approaching 60.

Key levels:
Support zone: 3,920–3,960
Immediate resistance / magnet: 4,000
Next extension if 4,000 holds: prior swing areas above
The move aligns with the softer dollar and lower Treasury yields. Gridlock reduces the probability of aggressive further fiscal expansion, which has been a headwind for gold in recent months.
Trader notes for the next sessions
DXY below 101.25 strengthens the case for continued gold bid and a more constructive backdrop for BTC. A reclaim of 101.70 reduces that tailwind.
BTC needs to hold the 77.5k–78k zone to keep the recovery structure intact. A retest of 75.7k with acceptance below would shift the short-term bias back to defensive.
Gold is the cleanest expression of the current narrative. Holding above 3,960 keeps the bounce constructive; a failure back into the 3,920 zone would suggest the move was mainly a one-session reaction.
Position sizing should account for residual volatility as remaining races are finalized and the market digests the regulatory implications for crypto and tech.
Cash remains a position. NFA.
