🔈🔈 CRYPTO SECURITY ALERT: BRAZIL'S LARGEST EXCHANGE HIT BY A $48.5M HACK
💥 The crypto industry is facing another wave of security incidents. Just days after the Binance attack, Brazil's leading crypto exchange Mercado Bitcoin has suffered a major security breach, with on-chain losses estimated at $48.5 million.
🔍 What Happened?
✔️ Mercado Bitcoin confirmed a security incident and temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals.
✔️ On-chain investigators traced approximately $48.5 million in assets across 10 blockchains, including Ethereum, Bitcoin, Solana, Avalanche and Stellar.
✔️ The attacker reportedly accessed exchange hot wallets and customer deposit addresses. The exact attack vector remains unclear.
✔️ Tether froze more than $4.5 million USDT linked to the incident, while further asset-tracing efforts continue.
💎 Another $106M Theft Reported
The situation is becoming even more concerning. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT also flagged a suspected theft of over $106 million from an unidentified EU entity's accounts across multiple centralized exchanges.
The funds were reportedly moved through several wallets, converted into ETH and partially routed through Monero (XMR) to complicate tracking.
🔴 Why It Matters
These incidents highlight the growing importance of exchange security, private-key protection and transparent incident response.
As crypto adoption expands, protecting user assets must remain a top priority for every centralized platform and Web3 ecosystem.
The industry needs stronger security standards, faster threat detection and better coordination to prevent future attacks.
