Hong Kong plans to introduce a token representing a standard 400-ounce gold bar, Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Christopher Hui Ching-yu said on Monday. The token would reference HAU, the city's gold-price ticker introduced earlier this year. Analysts see the interbank tokenised gold project as an important advance toward Hong Kong's ambition to become a major global gold hub. Ant Digital Technologies said its Anvita TaaS platform had facilitated a cross-bank gold transaction using tokenised deposits under Project Ensemble. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority announced a new phase of Project Ensemble that would use tokenised central bank money to support round-the-clock cross-border settlement.
