Trust is easy to talk about when everything is going well.

When markets are performing, products are working smoothly, and users are enjoying new opportunities, it's easy to appreciate an ecosystem.

But what happens when something goes wrong? What happens when a security incident shakes confidence, users start asking difficult questions, and an entire community waits for answers?

That's when trust becomes more than a word. It becomes something that must be demonstrated through actions.

The recent security incident involving Binance was a significant moment for the cryptocurrency industry and its global community. It was also a reminder that even the largest platforms are not immune to sophisticated cyberattacks.

Following this incident, Binance has launched its Community Appreciation Campaign, with a message that goes beyond trading: thank you for your trust and support.

I believe this campaign deserves to be discussed in the context of what happened, what followed, and most importantly, the people who make the Binance ecosystem what it is.

October 29: A Difficult Moment for Binance and Its Users

On October 29, 2026, Binance experienced a serious security incident involving unauthorized withdrawals from its hot wallets.

Binance subsequently estimated the financial impact at approximately $6.3 billion in token assets.

The incident understandably raised serious concerns. For users, security is fundamental. People want to know that their assets are protected, that their platform can respond to unexpected threats, and that there is a clear plan when something goes wrong.

Withdrawals were temporarily suspended while Binance investigated the incident, secured affected infrastructure, and conducted additional security checks.

It was a difficult period for the platform and its users.

And I think it's important to acknowledge that honestly.

Trust is not something users owe an exchange unconditionally. It is something platforms must continually earn through security, transparency, communication, and accountability.

The Response: Actions Matter More Than Promises

One of the most important commitments Binance made during the incident was that the financial impact of the stolen assets would be covered by Binance, not passed on to users.

Binance committed resources from its corporate treasury and the Secure Asset Fund for Users (SAFU), alongside other available funds, to replenish the affected assets.

The recovery process has also involved cooperation with law enforcement, blockchain intelligence companies, asset issuers, and other industry partners to trace and freeze affected funds.

The recovery milestones are particularly important:

  • October 30: Binance announced the estimated $6.3 billion impact and committed to covering the losses.

  • October 31: Binance reported that approximately 90% of the affected assets had been replenished.

  • November 1: Binance began restoring withdrawals in phases following security checks.

  • November 2: Binance reported approximately 95% replenishment and published the completed zero-knowledge Proof of Reserves verification for its October 31 snapshot.

For ten major assets, including BTC, ETH, USDT, BNB, SOL, and USDC, Binance reported 100% backing and enabled users to independently verify their balances through its Proof of Reserves verification process.

The remaining 5% of the affected amount consisted of less-liquid assets that Binance said it was still sourcing.

These developments matter because trust needs more than reassurance. It needs measurable progress and evidence that users can examine for themselves.

The investigation and recovery work are ongoing, and a detailed post-incident report remains important.

But What About the People Who Continued Trusting Binance?

This is where I think the Community Appreciation Campaign becomes particularly meaningful.

Behind every Binance account is a real person.

Some people use Binance to trade. Others use it to explore blockchain technology, participate in P2P markets, access different financial products, or learn about digital assets.

Some have been part of the ecosystem for years. Others joined only recently.

For many, Binance is also a place where they have built professional relationships, discovered opportunities, learned new skills, and connected with a global community.

The recent incident may have tested that confidence, but the community also demonstrated why support, communication, and solidarity matter.

To the users who continued asking questions, sharing verified information, supporting newcomers, and keeping conversations constructive: you deserve appreciation.

And to those who raised concerns and demanded accountability, your voices matter too.

A strong community should have room for both appreciation and critical feedback.

Three Years as a Binance Angel: My Personal Perspective

I've been a Binance Angel since September 2023.

Over the past three years, I've had the opportunity to contribute to the Binance community from Ethiopia through educational content, local meetups, online discussions, and community initiatives.

I've met people who were completely new to cryptocurrency and others who were already deeply involved in blockchain technology.

I've helped introduce newcomers to Binance products, participated in educational activities, and connected with fellow Angels across different regions.

What these experiences have taught me is that community building is about much more than promoting a platform.

It's about helping people understand what they're using, encouraging responsible participation, answering questions, and creating an environment where people feel comfortable learning.

That's also why trust matters so much to me.

When someone attends a community meetup or asks for help understanding a Binance product, they're placing a certain level of confidence in the information and guidance they receive. That responsibility shouldn't be taken lightly.

Being a Binance Angel isn't about convincing everyone that everything is perfect. It's about being informed, helping people find reliable information, listening to concerns, and contributing positively. And during difficult moments, those responsibilities become even more important.

Trust Is a Continuous Responsibility

I think there's an important lesson here for the entire cryptocurrency industry.

No platform should assume that its reputation makes it immune to security challenges or that users will automatically remain confident after a major incident.

Security must continue evolving. Transparency must be meaningful. Communication must be timely. And accountability must be demonstrated through actions.

At the same time, communities deserve recognition for the role they play in an ecosystem's development.

The Binance Community Appreciation Campaign is an opportunity to recognize those people and thank them for their continued participation and support.

For me, the message is particularly personal after three years as a Binance Angel.

I've seen the positive impact of community education, the value of connecting people, and the importance of helping newcomers navigate this industry.

I'm grateful for every fellow Angel, every community member, every person I've met at a meetup, and everyone who has contributed to making this journey meaningful.

To Every Binancian: Thank You

To the people who continued supporting one another through the recent uncertainty.

To those who asked difficult questions and encouraged better standards.

To the Angels who continued educating and helping their communities.

To the moderators, builders, traders, developers, and everyday users.

Thank you.

Appreciation doesn't mean forgetting what happened. It means recognizing the people who remain an important part of the journey while expecting the improvements that trust requires.

Trust is not built in a single announcement. It is earned through consistent actions, especially when things get difficult.

And to every Binancian who has been part of this journey, thank you for your trust, your support, and your contribution.

Different countries. Different backgrounds. Different experiences.

One global community.
