🚨 Mercado Bitcoin Hack: $40M Flagged, Withdrawals Paused 🔐
🏦 Mercado Bitcoin, one of Brazil's biggest crypto exchanges, paused all deposits and withdrawals on Nov 2 after a security incident (a break-in at one of its systems). The exchange says it contained the incident, with no customer losses and no data leak.
🔍 Security firm Hypernative says more than $40 million in suspicious transfers left wallets linked to the exchange across 10+ blockchains (separate crypto networks). This is an early estimate, and the exchange has not confirmed any dollar amount or reopening date.
🧊 Tether froze more than 4.5M USDT (a dollar-linked coin) tied to the case. The transfers were normal signed transactions, not a code bug, and how the attacker got signing power is still unclear.
🕒 This comes 4 days after Binance confirmed its $6.3 billion hack. No link between the two has been reported.
