My honest stance after this week: I respect how fast Binance covered the money, but it hasn't made me trust centralised exchanges more — it's done the opposite for how much I'll keep on any one of them.
Here's why I'm torn. On one hand, 90% of the $6.3B is replenished, the top 10 tokens are fully backed, around $3B has been frozen, and Binance says users won't bear the loss, funded from its own treasury plus a partial SAFU draw and its futures insurance fund. That's a serious response, and BTC sitting near $77,700 while all this unfolds says the market hasn't panicked either.
On the other hand, the emergency fund itself got dipped into — SAFU now has to be rebuilt to about $1B — and CertiK has said publicly it needs more information to verify the claimed $5B in replacement holdings, with the full cryptographic proof not due until Nov 3. So we're being asked to trust the recovery before we can independently verify it.
So my split is simple: trading stack on the exchange, real holdings in self-custody, never a large balance in one place again. Where do you land?
A) More trust — they paid, that's what counts
B) Less trust — a $6.3B breach is a $6.3B breach
C) Unchanged — I never kept much on exchanges anyway
