Binance’s $6.3B Security Incident: Facts Before Fear

A major exchange security incident raises three separate questions: what happened, what has been recovered, and what remains unverified.

What Binance reported in its latest detailed support update:

* ~$6.3 billion: estimated affected token assets from unauthorized hot-wallet withdrawals.
* More than $6.34 billion: company funds set aside to cover the losses, including $5 billion held in affected token assets.
* ~$3 billion: affected assets frozen on-chain with industry partners.
* Withdrawals: temporarily suspended in that update while additional security checks and remediation continued. Deposits and unaffected services were reported as operational.
* Restoration target: Binance aimed to begin resuming withdrawals within approximately 34 hours of the update, subject to security checks. That target is not confirmation of service restoration.

Binance also reported no evidence of a wallet private-key leak at that stage. Its investigation remained ongoing, with additional technical findings planned once verified. Binance Support +1
