Over the last seven days $BTC slipped 4.0% to about $77,376. Every major on my watchlist went red with it: ETH -5.2%, SOL -6.1%, BNB -4.2%, XRP -2.8%, STRK -10.0%. One coin went the other way. $HYPE closed the week up 15.9%, from $75.69 to $87.71 on Binance spot.

That kind of divergence rarely comes from random rotation. This week it had a clear catalyst, and it says a lot about where the perp DEX narrative is heading.

What happened

On October 29, The Block reported that Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the NYSE, agreed to partner with TradeXYZ to bring Hyperliquid-based perpetual futures to US users under a regulated framework. The roles split three ways. Hyperliquid supplies the technology through HIP-3. TradeXYZ builds the markets. ICE runs the regulated exchange and the clearing. ICE is also taking a strategic stake in TradeXYZ, and Stan Druckenmiller said publicly that he is an investor in TradeXYZ. One caveat matters a lot: the deal still needs regulatory approval.

Why it matters for perp DEXs

For years the bear case on on-chain perps was simple: they're offshore, unregulated and cut off from US money. A clearinghouse operator the size of ICE plugging into HIP-3 doesn't erase that concern, but it changes the conversation. Hyperliquid now looks like infrastructure that traditional venues want to build on, instead of something they compete against. ICE CEO Jeffrey Sprecher described these markets as "additive to our futures markets, not a replacement for them." The plan also goes beyond crypto, with perps on equities, indices, commodities and FX. That's a bigger addressable market than most people priced in a month ago.

What the chart says

News pumps tend to retrace, and this one is following the script. HYPE spiked to a 7-day high of $97.74 on the announcement. It has since given back roughly 10% from that wick and is down 4.3% over the last 24h. The 24h range runs from $86.36 to $94.02, on about $36M of spot volume.

Here's how I'd frame the levels:

• $94–98: the post-news supply zone. Reclaiming it would be a strong sign that the move is more than a one-day headline.

• $86–87: today's low, roughly where the breakout candle started. Holding here keeps the structure intact.

• Around $81: the base the coin built on Oct 27–28 before the news. Losing $86 would put it back in play.

Risks worth naming

• Regulatory approval isn't guaranteed, and timelines in this area tend to slip.

• A core-contributor token unlock is expected around November 6, per reports. Unlocks can add supply right when momentum is fading.

• HYPE is a high-beta asset. If BTC keeps grinding lower, relative strength can turn into a sharp catch-down.

The bigger picture

In a week when the whole market bled, the one coin with a concrete fundamental catalyst outperformed by nearly 20 percentage points. That's worth noticing, whatever you think of HYPE. Capital is getting picky. It's flowing toward real revenue, real users and real partnerships, and away from beta for its own sake.

The open question is whether this turns into a trend or stays a one-off headline. If US perps on HIP-3 rails get approved, perp DEXs become one of the clearest crypto-to-TradFi bridges this cycle. If approval drags, expect the premium to fade.

Is HYPE's breakout the start of a new leg, or a headline pump that's already over? Let me know in the comments.
