Today, #coinbase is carrying out its planned conversion of non-MiCA-compliant stablecoins held by #EEA retail customers.
$USDT , DAI, PYUSD and 11 other assets are affected. Any remaining balances are being converted into $USDC where suitable, or another supported asset.
Nothing changed in the smart contracts. The coins still work. What changed is the rulebook around who issued them and what backs them.
That’s the part most people skip. A stablecoin isn’t one thing. It’s an issuer, a reserve, a set of chains, and a price that has to hold on every one of them.
Regulation is now sorting stablecoins by those questions, which means the data behind them (peg data, reserve verification, price feeds) just became infrastructure.
That’s the lane $DIA is in: stablecoin peg data across 50+ chains, and Proof of Reserves that checks supply against actual backing.
Question for the EU folks: did the conversion catch you off guard, and did you know what backed the coin you held?
