Binance estimates $6.3B in losses in record-breaking crypto hack
#Binance attributed the breach to a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer. The attacker gained access to a service container and initiated withdrawals, while no private keys were exposed. The estimated losses have reached $6.3B, with approximately $3B frozen on-chain. The attack is suspected to involve North Korea's Lazarus Group. Some stolen funds reached the same #THORChain address used in the $388M Bitget hack.
Binance will fully compensate affected users using SAFU reserves and the company’s funds. Deposits remain operational, while withdrawals are expected to resume within 48 hours. The incident has also postponed today's $PREDICT listing.
