🔑 5 lessons that outlast the headline

  1. The weak link was a person’s device, not the cryptography. Endpoint security is now a frontline issue.

  2. Speed beats freezes. The attacker deposited about $60M in stolen USDT into Aave and borrowed roughly $44.6M in ETH, an asset that can’t be frozen the way USDT can. This did not exploit Aave’s contracts.

  3. Scam season starts now. Binance urged users to rely only on official channels, since scams typically follow incidents like this.

  4. Leverage and chaos don’t mix. Forced liquidations hit hardest when news breaks.

  5. Security is becoming an AI race. One industry CEO argued that defending is getting harder because AI finds vulnerabilities faster than teams can fix them. Elon Musk said a superintelligent agent could someday do something similar to secure money for itself. He did not suggest AI was involved in this attack.

The hack itself is already priced into the headlines. The real test is the next 48 hours: do withdrawals reopen on schedule, and do the post-mortem and proof of reserves arrive? Binance has promised a full post-mortem once the investigation is complete. Watch those, not rumors.
