Binance got hacked. Here’s what we actually know so far
Binance has confirmed a major security incident that started on Oct 29. Lots of noise on timelines right now, so here’s only what’s been reported by credible sources:
Deposits and withdrawals are temporarily suspended while Binance runs security checks and works with law enforcement
Binance estimates around $6.3B was drained, with about $3B frozen so far. Other trackers show lower numbers, so treat the total as unsettled
Tether and Circle froze over $2B in stablecoins between them
Binance says it will cover all losses
Early findings point to a compromised engineer laptop. Binance hasn’t published the full technical details yet
TRM Labs links it to a North Korean group, but that’s not confirmed by Binance
BNB and the wider market dropped on the news.
What I’m doing: waiting for Binance’s official updates and not trusting random screenshots or “withdraw now” panic posts. This is also a good reminder to turn on 2FA and anti-phishing codes, and to watch out for fake “recovery” links, because scammers will move fast on this.
Numbers will change, so I’ll update when there’s more official info.
Not financial advice. Stay safe.
