Best crypto exchange during a $489M liquidation hour: what actually mattered

The best crypto exchange proves itself when the market breaks. During the October 2026 crash, one hour wiped out roughly $489M in leveraged positions, part of a cascade of over a billion dollars that day. In that hour, fees and promotions meant nothing to me.

What mattered was whether the platform stayed online when volume spiked, whether orders filled instead of hanging, and whether the liquidation engine closed positions predictably rather than freezing and gapping. A venue that goes down the one hour you need it is worthless.

Solvency mattered just as much. When liquidations cascade, the fear is whether the exchange can cover users, so a Proof of Reserves I can check with an open-source tool turns panic into something verifiable. I want reserves above 100%, a real liquidation engine, and uptime under load.

The best crypto exchange, to me, is the one still working normally in the worst hour, not whichever one shouts loudest in the calm. Could be wrong for how you trade, just what mattered to me when it actually broke.
