Russia just gave its crypto exchangers a 90-day clock.

On Oct 29 the Bank of Russia granted NAUFOR, the country's securities-market association, self-regulatory status for crypto exchange operators and digital depositories. Under Federal Law 282-FZ (Aug 4, 2026), firms on the central bank's registers now have 90 days to join that SRO.

The numbers per Finmarket and Vedomosti:
- 23 crypto exchangers and 8 digital depositories on the registers, including VTB, Sber and T-Bank's group
- Minimum own funds: 15M rubles for exchangers, 50M to 250M for depositories
- Admission rules took effect Oct 5
- Firms already operating get a simplified path, with full compliance due by Sept 1, 2027

My read: Russia is ending the gray-market era. Access now runs through big banks and a body that writes the standards and monitors compliance, which leaves less room for the informal OTC desks that served Russian users for years.
