$SOL Holding $100 After Alpenglow. Bounce or Breakdown?

SOL is trading near $102, up about 2% today. But it's down about 17% in 30 days, and the biggest upgrade in Solana's history just went live to a sell-the-news reaction. Before you buy the dip, here's the full picture.

WHAT IT IS

Solana is a fast, low-fee Layer-1 blockchain. SOL pays network fees and is staked to secure the chain. It's a top-10 coin with a market cap of about $60B. The network runs DeFi, stablecoins, memecoins and tokenized stocks.

WHERE IT CAME FROM

SOL hit its all-time high of about $293 on Jan 19, 2025 and is now about 65% below it. It started October near $121, double-topped near $122-$124, then slid to an October low of $99. On Oct 21 the Alpenglow upgrade went live, cutting finality from about 12.8 seconds to a targeted 150ms. No outages were reported, but price didn't rally on it.

TOKENOMICS

• Circulating supply: about 590M SOL

• No hard supply cap. Staking rewards add new SOL over time

• Use cases: fees, staking, DeFi collateral

• Spot SOL ETFs are live, with about $1.6B in total inflows since launch

• Network activity is strong. Tokenized stock trading on Solana and BNB Chain neared $3.3B, and $250M USDC was minted on Solana

THE CHART

• Started October near $121, October low at $99

• Down about 14.5% since the end of September

• Price is below its 50-day average (about $105-$110)

• $100 has held twice this month

• 24h range: about $99-$103, with volume near $2B

• US spot SOL ETFs saw about $58-68M in October outflows (sources differ), including 12 straight outflow sessions into the upgrade

• Futures open interest is about $6.3B

3 SCENARIOS

Bull: it reclaims $106 and then $110 as ETF outflows stop. Next stops are $116, then the $122-$124 double top.

Base: it ranges between $99 and $106 while ETFs and macro set the next move.

Bear: a daily close below $99 sends it to $96, then the 200-day average near $88.

TRADE IDEA

Don't buy the middle of the range. Wait for the support retest.

Entry zone: $99-$101

Example entry: $100

Stop: daily close below $96

Target 1: $106

Target 2: $110

Risk/reward: about 2.5:1 to Target 2

Keep size small. If $99 breaks, don't average down.

RISKS

• ETF outflows are still running and Alpenglow didn't change that

• Sell-the-news after the upgrade

• Below the 50-day average, down about 65% from the ATH

• Large SOL transfers to exchanges in recent weeks

• Memecoin activity on Solana has cooled sharply

• Validator software concentration is a flagged network risk

• Macro: Bitcoin direction and US data can drag every altcoin

MY TAKE

Great tech, weak flows. The upgrade is real, but buyers haven't shown up yet. $100 is the line. I'd rather buy the support with a tight stop than chase a bounce. Patience beats FOMO.

Would you buy the dip or stay out?

Not financial advice. DYOR.
