Brazil's crypto rulebook just hit its first real deadline, and two very different players are lining up.
Itaú Unibanco, the country's largest private bank, formally notified the central bank on Oct 27 of its crypto trading and custody service under Resolution 520. As an already licensed bank it only needs to notify. It has offered about 15 assets, including $BTC, $ETH and USDC, since December 2023, but hasn't shared user numbers or volumes.
Binance took the harder route. Its new local entity, BBrasil, filed for a full virtual-asset provider (SPSAV) authorization on Oct 23, ahead of the Oct 30 cutoff. To comply, it restricted margin, lending and derivatives for Brazilian users and is delisting 22 assets there. Filing is not approval.
My take: this is what "regulation arriving" actually looks like. It's not a ban, but products get narrower first, and banks get a smoother on-ramp than crypto-native platforms. The next date to watch is Nov 6, when authorized institutions can no longer do crypto business with unauthorized providers.
Market-wise, $BNB is around $758 (+2.7% in 24h) and $BTC is near $81.3K, with the Fed decision still ahead. For BNB, I'm watching whether $740 holds as support.
