Have you ever wondered how financial agreements on the blockchain know the current market value? For instance, a loan requires a specific price point to trigger a liquidation, just as an options contract relies on one to calculate exact payouts at expiration. Traditionally, Bitcoin Script has lacked a built-in mechanism to read these external prices. To bypass this technical hurdle, developers have had to employ complicated methods such as moving BTC to alternative blockchains, utilizing multisig escrows, or depending entirely on pre-signed outcomes.

That process is now becoming much simpler and more secure, as Arkade (@arkade_os) has successfully integrated the signed BTC/USD price feed provided by DIA. Because of this update, contracts built on Arkade are able to directly verify the DIA price at the exact moment of settlement. This innovation entirely removes the necessity for any intervening bridges, relays, or external smart contracts. Best of all, your collateral stays securely on Bitcoin while the actual price verification happens right inside the contract itself.

To deliver highly accurate data, DIA gathers feeds from more than 100 different exchanges. It then aggregates this pricing information onchain via Lasernet, which is its own specialized rollup. Furthermore, these system designs offer the flexibility to incorporate multiple signers and ultimately finalize settlements based on the median value.

Ark Labs is kicking off this exciting new capability by focusing initially on options. However, this exact same signed price architecture will seamlessly serve as the foundation for a variety of future setups, including liquidity, protection, and lending designs.
