Solana just got 85x faster. Its price didn't celebrate — it slid straight back to $100.
That's the contradiction at the heart of this market. On 21 October, Solana's Alpenglow upgrade went live, cutting the network's finality target from around 12.8 seconds to roughly 150 milliseconds. In practice, SOL hit $109 that day, fell to about $103 the next, and now sits clinging to $100 on the eve of the Fed's decision.
THE $100 LINE IN THE SAND
This isn't just a round number. SOL defended $100 on 13, 15 and 18 October, lost it intraday on 24 October, and clawed it back. Underneath sits the 200-day average near $98.27. Above sits the 50-day average around $106-$107, then $111-$114.
In short: a daily close back above $106-$107 reopens the path toward $114. A daily close below $98 flips the script — and the next stops traders are watching are $88-$94. That's why you should be watching the $SOL chart into tomorrow, not scrolling past it.
WHAT THE MONEY IS ACTUALLY DOING
The institutional side is not helping. US spot SOL ETFs posted $8.23M in net outflows on 26 October, their third straight week of outflows, after a 14-week inflow streak broke. October outflows now total $72.24M. Three linked wallets also moved 482,228 SOL (~$49M) over three days, depositing 171,430 SOL to exchanges.
But while traders sell, users aren't leaving. Around 74% of circulating SOL is still staked. Circle has minted $112B of USDC on Solana in 2026 — nearly double all of 2025. Tokenized equities on Solana just passed 1.5 million holders, five times August's count. Daily DEX volume is still running at $1.58B.
WHY TOMORROW MATTERS
The Fed decides on 28 October, and a hold is already about 90% priced in. History says that's when things get tricky — in 2025, Bitcoin pulled back after 7 of 8 Fed meetings, because the decision was already in the price and crowded positions unwound afterwards. And when Bitcoin wobbles, SOL has historically fallen harder — with $BTC itself now under $80K.
One contrarian signal: analyst Ali Martinez flagged a TD Sequential buy signal at the $100 zone on 15 October, with a rebound toward $111 possible if buyers defend this level. No guarantee — but this zone has been a turning point before.
THE HONEST RISK
If $100 breaks on a daily close, the bear case writes itself: ETF outflows continue, leverage is cooling, and network revenue is down sharply year-on-year as the memecoin fee boom faded. A Solana trading bot, Bloom, also lost 9,408 SOL to a hack on 26 October — contained, but a reminder of real operational risk.
My take: SOL's fundamentals got dramatically better last week, and its price got worse anyway. Either the market is wrong, or macro wins until proven otherwise. Tomorrow's Fed decision, plus whether $100 holds, gives us the answer.
Watch the daily close versus $98 and $106, the next ETF flows, and whether Bitcoin reclaims $80K.
