Two events drove most of it: Bitget ($387.5M, wallet system breach) and Liquid Network ($318.7M, code flaw that allowed fake coins to be created).

The lesson for traders: exchange size is not a security guarantee. Concentrated funds mean concentrated risk.

Quick survival checklist:

Move idle coins to your own wallet.
Split funds across more than one platform.
Turn on 2FA and withdrawal whitelists.

Keep on exchanges only what you’re actively trading.
