BNB Chain's "New L1": more chains, still one coin

CZ summed it up in four words on X: "Multiple chains, one coins." BNB Chain has published docs for a new EVM-compatible Layer 1 that will run alongside BSC rather than replace it, and the key design choice is that there is no new token. BNB stays the gas, staking and governance asset, moved over through a native BSC bridge.

The targets are aggressive: 200 ms blocks, roughly 20 ms preconfirmations, sub-second finality, and no public mempool, with reserved lanes for latency-sensitive traffic like order books, liquidations and payments. Staking BNB via StakeHub mints non-transferable govBNB 1:1 for voting.

My take: skipping a new token is the right call for $BNB holders, since activity on the new chain doesn't get split off into another asset. But it's still early. Right now it's an internal devnet only, the bridge isn't live, and the privacy features still need audits. Public testnet is targeted for end of 2026, mainnet early 2027. Also remember a preconfirmation is not final settlement.

Price-wise, BNB is around $733 today, down about 1.4% in 24h as the whole market de-risks ahead of Wednesday's Fed decision. For me the roadmap is a slow-burn story; testnet traction will matter more than this headline.
