🚨 Electrum Wallet Fixes High-Risk Bitcoin Security Vulnerability

Electrum has released version 4.8.3 to fix a high-severity security flaw affecting all versions released before it.

According to Electrum’s official security advisory, malicious servers could hide a recently broadcast Bitcoin transaction and display a fraudulent replacement sending funds to an attacker’s address. If users attempted to speed up that fake transaction using Replace-by-Fee (RBF), they could unknowingly authorize the payment and lose Bitcoin.

⚠️ The threat was real: Electrum reported two related user incidents, including one in which a user lost funds.

✅ What users should do:

- Update Electrum to version 4.8.3 or later.
- Download wallet software only from official sources.
- Verify the complete recipient address and transaction amount before signing, especially when increasing transaction fees.
- Avoid approving suspicious or unfamiliar pending transactions.

This incident highlights an important lesson: even when using legitimate wallet software, security vulnerabilities and malicious infrastructure can put crypto funds at risk.

Stay updated. Verify every transaction. Protect your Bitcoin.
