Your seed phrase can be perfectly safe while your home address is not.
Hardware wallet maker Keystone confirmed that a third party accessed its website and obtained customer names, contact details, shipping addresses and order information. According to the company, the access was detected on October 20, blocked and fixed, and payment data, recovery phrases and private keys were not exposed. Affected customers were notified by email.
The device did its job. The weak point was the online store around it. We have seen the same pattern before with Ledger and Trezor customer data, and every leak like this turns into phishing waves and, worse, real-world targeting of people who are now known to hold crypto.
My takeaways:
- No real support team will ever ask for your 24 words. Treat every "urgent firmware" email or call as a scam by default.
- Consider shipping hardware wallets to a pickup point or using minimal personal details.
- Keep a small decoy wallet and do not talk about your bag size in public.
With $BTC slipping below $80K and fear rising, scammers move fastest when people are stressed. Self-custody is about operational security too, not just the device.
