🔴 Over $400 million in liquidations in 4 hours: Bitcoin briefly dipped below $80,000

📉 It was a heated Saturday morning in the crypto market: a sharp drop in BTC triggered a wave of mass liquidations of bullish positions. Key figures and events from the latest update:

➡️ Scale of the fallout: Over a 4-hour period (ending at 1:00 PM ET), $436.44 million was liquidated across exchanges, with $404.15 million coming from long positions. Over the course of the day, more than 201,000 traders were affected, and total liquidations exceeded $815 million.
➡️ Major hits: Two powerful waves swept through the market—at 10:15 AM ($208 million in liquidations within 15 minutes as BTC fell to $80,100) and at 11:15 AM ($131 million). At its lowest point, Bitcoin dipped to approximately $79,280 before recovering above $80,000.
➡️ Ether takes a hit: Although ETH’s market capitalization is only about 18% of Bitcoin’s, Ether accounted for $136.72 million in liquidations—nearly as much as BTC ($158.45 million). Long positions accounted for 94.2% of Bitcoin liquidations and 92.7% of Ether liquidations.
➡️ ETF Outflows: Spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US ended Friday with a net outflow of $137.94 million (with BlackRock’s IBIT fund notably contributing to this). This marks the second consecutive day of outflows, following a $635 million outflow on Thursday.
➡️ Arthur Hayes Dumps Everything: The BitMEX co-founder announced on social media that he has closed all of his fund’s directional positions ("I dumped it all"), locking in profits on $ETH , $ENA , $UNI , and other altcoins. The reason cited is concerning macroeconomic and geopolitical news—specifically, the reduction of US embassy staff in the Middle East due to threats from Iran.
