Bitcoin dominance is sitting right at 60%, and I think this level matters more than BTC's price this weekend.
Quick numbers (CoinGecko, Oct 24): $BTC is around $80,580, down about 1.2% in 24h, with a ~60.1% share of total crypto market cap. $ETH holds roughly 10.7%.
The debate on X is split. Benjamin Cowen points out that BTC dominance excluding stablecoins is still printing higher lows, which argues for continued Bitcoin leadership. Other traders see BTC.D getting rejected at a resistance zone and frame it as a decision point: above ~61.5%, BTC keeps leading and alts stay weak; below ~58%, capital could start rotating into ETH and alts.
My take: the recent rise in dominance looks driven more by altcoin weakness than by Bitcoin strength. That is not the same as healthy BTC demand. For an actual alt rotation, I'd want to see dominance fall while BTC holds the $80K area, not dominance falling because BTC itself breaks down.
With the Fed meeting on Oct 27-28 and macro headlines stacking up, I'm watching BTC.D and the BTC/ETH relationship together rather than chasing any single alt pump. Patience over prediction until one side of that range breaks.
Where do you think dominance closes October: above 61.5% or below 58%?
