USDT is heading back to Bitcoin. Is this the utility story $BTC needs?

Utexo says its Bitcoin-native USDT mainnet goes live on November 28, 2026, after its Utexo Mint testnet opened for exchanges and wallets this week. It has also joined Mastercard's Crypto Partner Program. The design uses RGB for private asset transfers and Lightning for fast payments, with Bitcoin as the settlement layer.

My take: the idea is strong, but execution is everything. Tether's biggest volume today lives on chains with simple, cheap transfers. For USDT on Bitcoin to matter, wallets have to make RGB and Lightning feel invisible to users. A Mastercard link helps with merchant reach, but adoption will be decided by wallet UX and liquidity, not by press releases. Also worth noting: a lot of the Utexo buzz on X right now looks like campaign content, so I'd wait for real on-chain usage after launch before getting excited.

Meanwhile, BTC is trading around $81.5K today after sliding from about $84K on Oct 22. Price isn't reacting to this news yet, which makes sense for an infrastructure launch still a month away.

Would you actually send USDT over Bitcoin if your wallet supported it?
