$GMX A New Buyback Catalyst Is Coming, But the Chart Still Needs to Recover đ
GMX caught my attention because an important tokenomics change is approaching while price is struggling to regain its previous momentum.
GMX closed near $7.77 on October 22, down roughly 7.5% in one session, before recovering toward $7.90 today. That rebound is worth watching, but buyers still need to prove they can overcome the recent selling pressure.
Hereâs the development that makes this setup interesting: starting October 28, GMX plans to use Solana-side protocol revenue remaining after GT buybacks to purchase GMX tokens for the staking rewards pool. If implemented as announced, this creates a direct connection between protocol revenue and GMX buying demand.
But thereâs a second side to the story. A proposed 180-day unstaking timelock for staked GMX and esGMX on Arbitrum and Avalanche could affect holdersâ liquidity decisions. The buyback mechanism is potentially supportive, but it doesnât guarantee an immediate price rally.
My GMXUSDT trading plan:
đą Bullish confirmation: Reclaim $8.40 and hold the breakout on a retest. That could open the way toward $8.80, with $9.10 as a higher resistance zone.
đŽ Bearish confirmation: Lose $7.50 and fail to recover it. That would expose the recent lows and weaken the recovery setup.
My read: the October 28 change gives GMX a concrete catalyst to watch, but the real test is whether actual buying demand improves after implementation. Iâll be watching price reaction, trading volume and follow-through not buying purely on the announcement.
A catalyst creates the opportunity. Confirmation decides the trade.
