HSBC just entered the stablecoin ring — and it's targeting retail payments, not just institutions.

HSBC has launched a Hong Kong dollar-denominated stablecoin aimed at everyday retail payments, according to CoinTelegraph.

It marks one of the first major bank-backed entry into the emerging HKD stablecoin space as regulators in Hong Kong continue easing rules for digital assets.

Watch whether the stablecoin gains traction alongside Singapore's expanding cross-border payment network, which Malaysia and Thailand have already joined.

Banks used to scoff at stablecoins. Now they're building them — and the next question is who actually uses it.
