ZCASH NU7 IS GETTING CLOSER

Zcash developers have agreed on block 3,543,405 as the target activation height for the NU7 upgrade, which is currently expected to occur around November 5, 2026.

But this is more than simply an activation date.

NU7 is one of the important protocol upgrades in Zcash’s current development roadmap, with several changes focused on network performance, fee handling and legacy transaction support.

One of the most notable changes is the reduction of Zcash’s target block interval from 75 seconds to 25 seconds.

That means the network is targeting blocks approximately three times more frequently than before.

This could reduce the time between confirmations, although a 25-second target does not mean every transaction will confirm in exactly 25 seconds. Actual confirmation times can still depend on network conditions.

NU7 also introduces a Network Sustainability Mechanism for transaction fees.

Under the planned mechanism, 60% of transaction fees will be removed from circulation temporarily and are planned to be reintroduced for future miner rewards beginning around February 2031.

The upgrade also affects legacy Sprout transactions.

Version 4 transactions associated with the legacy Sprout pool are planned to be disabled under NU7. This makes the treatment of any remaining funds in the legacy Sprout pool an important consideration for users and infrastructure operators.

Another interesting point is that NU7 does not introduce a new transaction format.

The planned changes are therefore not expected to require major changes for ordinary wallet users, although infrastructure such as full nodes, indexers and block explorers will need to support the upgrade.

NU7 has already activated on Zcash testnet, allowing developers to test the changes before the mainnet rollout.

The current mainnet target is block 3,543,405, expected around November 5.

However, it is important to be precise here.

November 5 is an expected time based on the projected block height. It is not a guaranteed calendar date. The activation height still needs to be incorporated into the deployment specification and compatible node software before the mainnet upgrade can activate.

So the key takeaway is simple:

Zcash NU7 is moving toward mainnet activation with a target of block 3,543,405.

Faster target block production, changes to fee handling, legacy Sprout transaction changes and continued protocol development make this an upgrade worth watching closely.

No exaggerated price predictions are necessary.

The technical changes themselves are significant enough.
