#USD1StablecoinLoses$400MMarketCapInTwoWeeks

The facts

• USD1 fell about $401 million in market value over two weeks, to roughly $4.02 billion on Monday, Oct. 19, from $4.43 billion on Oct. 6. That is a 9.1% decline.
• The coin held its peg, trading between $0.998 and $1.000, and researchers found no sustained depeg. Supply shrank. The price did not break.
• The drop is concentrated on two chains. Ethereum supply fell 11.45% between Oct. 6 and Oct. 15, versus 4.93% for USDe, 2.18% for USDC and 0.76% for USDT.
• Solana supply stayed flat at about $1.42 billion, so nothing offset the redemptions.
• Less than $1 million moved between Ethereum and BNB Chain, so this was not a simple cross-chain shift.
• World Liberty's proof-of-reserves dashboard showed about $4.01 billion in reserves.

Why it matters

• A 9.1% supply drop in two weeks, with the peg intact, looks like holders exiting at par. That is orderly, not a panic.
• It is still a stress test with a deadline. World Liberty is preparing to take over issuance from BitGo through World Liberty Trust Company, which received preliminary conditional OCC approval on Aug. 14. Shrinking supply going into an issuer change adds operational and regulatory risk.
• Concentration is the open question. A single-source report claims almost $200 million traces back to one address. I could not corroborate that elsewhere.

What is not established

• The cause. The sources document the redemptions but not why they happened. Large holder rotation, yield chasing, regulatory caution and political-risk repositioning are all plausible. None is confirmed.
• Reserve adequacy. The $4.01B figure comes from the issuer's own dashboard. One report notes the historical attestation does not independently establish the reserve position after October's redemptions.
• Direction. The open question is whether new issuance restores the supply or how much USD1 will be in circulation at the issuer transition. Two weeks of data is not a trend.
