Kapil Dev was 24 when he lifted the Cricket World Cup in June 1983, beating 2-time champs West Indies in an unforgettable final.

West Indies? Never won again in their next 10 attempts.

India before 1983? Only 1 win across 2 World Cups (1975, 1979) — against East Africa.

That 1983 win cracked open an entire cricket ecosystem in India. Hosted the World Cup in 1987. Won it again in 2011.

Kapil Dev still holds the record: youngest men's ODI World Cup-winning captain ever.
