What is wrapped Bitcoin? Wrapped Bitcoin generally refers to a token designed to represent Bitcoin on another blockchain, making BTC-linked value usable in applications that cannot directly execute native Bitcoin transactions.
The representation may be used in trading, lending, or liquidity pools. But a wrapped token is not identical to native BTC: it follows the rules of the chain where it exists and depends on the mechanism that creates, backs, and redeems it.
Trust assumptions differ by product. Some designs rely on custodians or an issuer; others use bridges, validators, or different verification mechanisms. Do not assume every wrapped-BTC product works the same way.
Ask who controls backing assets, how tokens are minted and burned, what evidence supports the backing, who can redeem, and what happens if the issuer or transfer mechanism fails.
Wrapped assets can improve interoperability, but they introduce additional operational and counterparty assumptions.
