$KITE I spent some time looking into how AI agents could handle payments, and one question kept coming back to me: what happens when an agent makes a financial decision that its owner never intended?

That’s where Kite AI caught my attention. Most conversations about autonomous agents focus on what they can do, but I think the more important question is what they should be allowed to do.

Kite is developing infrastructure around agent identity and payments, including Agent Passport and programmable spending controls. The idea is interesting because giving an AI agent access to a wallet is one thing; defining exactly how much it can spend, which transactions it can authorize, and what permissions it holds is another.

Think about an agent purchasing API access on your behalf. You want it to complete the task without asking permission every few seconds, but you probably don't want it spending unlimited funds either. That balance between autonomy and control is where the real challenge begins.

Still, spending limits alone don't eliminate every risk. Compromised credentials, incorrect decisions, and authorization failures remain important concerns. What matters is whether these safeguards work reliably in actual transactions, not just in documentation.

I'll be watching how Kite's payment infrastructure develops and whether real usage demonstrates meaningful security.

How much financial freedom would you trust an AI agent with today?
