chain attack on Ledger hardware wallets distributed by Southeast Asian reseller CryptoBilis. According to CryptoSlate, crypto.news and TokenPost, Ledger confirmed an unauthorized implant in at least one device: a covert circuit with a microcontroller and eSIM that read users’ 24-word recovery phrases from the screen during setup and transmitted them over mobile networks. Bitquery’s October analysis put suspected losses near $102 million across 324 wallets on several blockchains, though Ledger has not verified those totals or confirmed that every drained wallet contained an implant. The company says all confirmed thefts so far involve devices bought through CryptoBilis, while its own systems and direct sales channels show no sign of compromise. Ledger has told CryptoBilis customers not to initialize unused devices and to migrate assets from already used ones to new wallets with freshly generated recovery phrases.
