Claude traces the origins of five cryptographic curves

Anthropic says the parameters for five NIST curves, including P-256, came from a 1990s pseudorandom generator initialized with Unix timestamps. The finding clarifies a longstanding question about their origins; it does not reveal a vulnerability or weaken their security. Bitcoin uses a different curve, secp256k1, so its signatures are not affected.
