Nillion is working on something Web3 has needed for a long time: a way to use sensitive data without exposing it.

What caught my attention is Covenants, especially its first release, Dusk. The idea is simple but interesting: let applications work with encrypted data while keeping information private. This could open new possibilities for onchain trading, AI agents, and applications where data privacy really matters.

But having the technology is only one part of the story.

Privacy becomes valuable when it solves real problems. Nillion has the opportunity to give developers tools to build applications that are difficult to create with traditional smart contracts.

That’s why Dusk is worth watching beyond its initial release. Developer activity, repeat usage, and applications built around Covenants will be important signals of progress.

I’m also interested in how widely adoption spreads. A few early experiments can show what’s possible, but a growing range of independent builders would be a much stronger sign of a healthy ecosystem.

For me, Nillion’s potential goes beyond keeping data hidden. It’s about making private computation practical for everyday Web3 applications.

Dusk is an important step in that direction. The real progress will come as developers turn this technology into useful products that people keep coming back to.
