Altcoin Season Signals: What to Actually Watch

Every bull market eventually rotates beyond $BTC — but most traders miss the signal and chase the move after it has already happened. Here is what to actually monitor.

Bitcoin dominance is the headline metric, but the nuance matters. A falling BTC.D in an environment where BTC price is still rising means capital is flowing into alts without BTC selling off. That is the cleanest rotation signal. BTC.D dropping because BTC is correcting is very different — it just means alts are falling slower.

Ethereum relative strength vs BTC is often the leading indicator. $ETH tends to rotate first among large caps, then capital cascades into mid-caps, then smaller alts. Watching the ETH/BTC chart is watching the floodgate. When it breaks convincingly above a multi-month range, the rotation clock typically starts.

Liquidity depth across Solana and Cardano ecosystems has grown meaningfully this cycle. Altcoin rallies that lack on-chain DEX volume confirmation tend to be thin and reversible. Real altcoin seasons show TVL expansion, not just price.

Finally, stablecoin supply on-chain is a fuel gauge. When USDC and USDT balances sitting idle in wallets begin moving into protocols and spot markets, dry powder is deploying — that is structural demand, not speculation.

Monitor the signals, not the noise. Rotation is a process, not an event.
