Two hot inflation prints in two days. $BTC lost $80,000 — and then took it straight back.

That is not a crash. That is a tug-of-war, and $80K is the rope.

What just happened

On Tuesday, September CPI came in at 3.7% year-on-year, above the 3.6% expected, with core at 2.6%. On Wednesday, September PPI landed even hotter: up 1.3% month-on-month and 6.3% year-on-year, the biggest annual jump since December 2022, with energy up 10.8% in a month.

Bitcoin dipped below $80,000 on Thursday, printing a low near $79,700, then reclaimed the level the same day. At writing it trades near $82,000.

So who is selling, and who is buying?

The sellers: ETFs

US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $261 million of net outflows on October 14, led by Fidelity's FBTC at roughly $153 million and BlackRock's IBIT at roughly $111 million. Only Bitwise's BITB managed a small inflow. The week of October 5-9 saw $1.22 billion leave crypto ETFs combined.

The buyers: whales

While ETF holders trimmed, whale wallets — excluding exchanges and mining pools — now hold 3.03 million BTC, the most since November 2025, with the fastest 30-day growth since February 2026, per CryptoQuant data. Exchange reserves sit near 2.68 million BTC. Coins are leaving exchanges while paper holders sell.

A word of honesty: a withdrawal is not proof of fresh buying. But the direction is clear — big wallets are absorbing what ETF sellers are handing them.

The flush

Roughly $1 billion in crypto positions were liquidated in 24 hours, about 92% of them longs. Here is the twist: Bitcoin's own leverage is actually clean — futures open interest is roughly half its October 2025 peak, and funding is cool. Longs still keep getting caught because the crowd keeps leaning long into every bounce.

Levels that decide it

$80,000 is the line. Glassnode warns support below it is thinning, with the true market mean near $78,000. A daily close below $80K opens $78K, then $75,444 — Strategy's average cost basis.

Above, $83,000 is immediate resistance. A daily close above $84,025 flips the setup toward $87,000. Tap $BTC to check the chart — the $80K line is the whole story.

What decides it

The Fed meets October 27-28, twelve days away. Hike odds spiked from about 22% toward roughly 50% after CPI, then eased back toward 30% as Fed officials cooled the talk. A hold is still the base case — but a hike is no longer a tail risk.

Meanwhile $ETH and the rest of the market fell harder than Bitcoin, with dominance near 60%. Money is hiding in Bitcoin, not leaving crypto.

History says round-number support gets tested twice — the flush, the bounce, then the retest. Bitcoin just survived test one.

Do you think $80K holds into October 28 — yes or no?
