⚡ Solana Alpenglow Activates Oct 21: What Actually Changes?
Solana is set to activate its Alpenglow consensus upgrade around 15:00 UTC on Oct 21 (epoch 1064). It replaces TowerBFT with the new Votor protocol, targeting finality of ~150 ms versus ~12.8 seconds today.
🔧 What changes:
• Validator votes move off-chain into direct communication
• Finality becomes far faster
• Execution, smart contracts and fees stay the same
⚠️ What it does NOT mean:
Faster finality ≠ higher TPS or cheaper fees. Reported TPS may even look lower, since vote transactions leave the blocks.
👥 Who needs to act:
Holders: nothing. Validators and node operators: upgrade to the recommended client.
